Bike City Projects - Destination Wollongong

Search

Destination Wollongong has been delegated by Wollongong City Council to maximise the benefits of Wollongong’s Bike City designation, including through destinational marketing, attracting and supporting cycling events and supporting Council’s work in promoting cycling in the community.

WCC has adopted a 2030 Cycling Strategy to guide its way forward in facilitating the legacy of hosting the 2022 World Road Cycling Championships. The Legacy Program is designed to ensure the city benefits from cycling long after the event is over.

This program looks at 7 key pillars:

  • Sport – increase opportunities for participation in cycling across NSW.
  • Tourism – achieve a UCI bike city designation for Wollongong
  • Policy – maximising the event platform to further policy matters to support cycling
  • Transport – support initiatives that increase opportunities for people to ride a bike in NSW
  • Education – support educational programs that will develop all facets of cycling.
  • People – develop the skills of event organisers, event approval authorities, and sports volunteers to support future events
  • Partnerships – provide a platform to galvanise community interest and support to deliver additional legacy projects as part of Wollongong 2022.

Accredited Bike City Projects should contribute to one or more of the Legacy key pillars
