The Retail & Services stream of the Bike Friendly Business is designed for businesses who offer a cycling service to residents, visitors and tourists, including retailers selling bikes and cycling paraphernalia, cycling tour agents and other services, who want to grow their cycling business and who want to support Wollongong as a Bike City.

The benefits to Wollongong as a Bike City in having the Bike City Business program include:

  1. Providing a support framework for cyclist – be they visitors or residents
  2. Increased accommodation and other revenue for the area through providing a good experience for cycle tourists.
  3. Supporting the Business-Friendly Venues, Accommodation and Employer streams
  4. Having a network of businesses willing to promote other Bike City activities

Implementation

  • A Four-phase Accreditation Process is to be used:
    • Below is a Self-Check process, and you are asked to review your location against the Checklist and apply a score, reflecting the percentage of criteria that are met (to all or some degree).
    • Submit the completed Checklist and it will be reviewed by Destination Wollongong and a Cycling representative.
    • If the required score has been achieved – arrangements will be made for an inspection of the location by a DW and Cycling organisation representative.
    • If the location has achieved the required number of criteria – the business is nominated as a Bike Friendly Business – and is then presented with a certificate and BFB logo decal and/or sign, by a Bike City Spokesperson.
  • Bike Friendly Businesses will be listed on the DW and Bike City websites.
  • The listing will be used during W22 and into the future – especially when cycling events are in Wollongong.
  • The listing is also to be distributed to local and Sydney cycle clubs who would be asked to promote the accreditation process and accredited venues.
