Santa Claus Pub Crawl for CharitySanta Claus Pub Crawl

Date: Saturday 10th December 2016

The Santa Claus Pub Crawl (SCPC) is celebrating it's 23rd anniversary this year. This event is now the longest running Santa Claus Pub Crawl in the world.

The only requirement is to dress in something Christmassy - even just a hat. In previous years costumes have included Santa's, Christmas trees, presents, reindeer, angels, elves and Santa Elvis. There is no limit to your creativity - just ensure you bring a sense of humour!

Splash and DashSplash and Dash

Date: Sunday 18th December 2016

Kick start summer fun as they invite you to the seventh edition of the popular Splash and Dash Festival, set on the sensational Illawarra coast city of Wollongong. The sandy beach and surf will come alive with events as the new Soft Sand Runs, the popular Ocean Swims, and new courses for the swim and run of Aquathons. Get set for Christmas with an active and fun morning at the beach everyone can have a go in.

Australian Country Cricket ChampionshipsCountry Cricket

Date: 2-10 January 2017

The Commonwealth Bank Australian Country Cricket Championships is Australian National competition that provides cricketers with an opportunity to play against some of the best country players across the country.

The 2017 event will involve six men’s teams and seven women’s teams from across Australia and the East Asia Pacific region battling it out across T20 and One- Day matches.

Australian Indoor Hockey ChampionshipsIndoor Hockey Championships

Date: 5-25 January 2017

Wollongong will host its second Indoor Australian Championships in 2017, from 5 to 25 January at the Illawarra Hockey Centre, and will see more than 1,000 participants, officials and supporters descend on the New South Wales seaside city.

Championships will be played in Open, Under 21, Under 18, Under 15 and Under 13 categories.

The University of Wollongong, Illawarra South Coast Hockey Association and Hockey New South Wales supported by Hockey Australia and Destination Wollongong look forward to the successful delivery of this new festival of indoor hockey.

Summer of SurfSummer of Surf

Date: 6-7 January 2017

Destination Wollongong Proudly present round 5 of Summer of Surf this year to be hosted by North Wollongong SLSC. An area that has produced some of Surf Life Saving’s best athletes, Illawarra has always provided athletes with great competitions and hosted some of the most exciting events. Check out the Nutrigrain Ironman Qualifiers plus board, swim and ski finals across the weekend. 

Illawarra Folk FestivalIllawarra Folk Festival

Date: 12-15 January 2017

The Illawarra Folk Festival originated at Jamberoo in 1985, and has grown to be one of the largest festivals in Australia run entirely by volunteers.

Now nestled in the northern Illawarra escarpment at Bulli, the festival presents approximately 170 performers over four days. Performers, volunteers and audiences alike continue to return to the festival to experience and participate in the diversity of music and performances, and enjoy the intimate, vibrant, community atmosphere the festival has become renowned for.

Australia Day is all age fitness fun in Wollongong as hundreds take the annual Australia Day Aquathon or Community Walk. 18 years strong, Aquathon draws a fun crowd across those out for an Australia Day "splash in, dash out" experience, or picturesque community walk supporting local charities.

Offering distances for kids, beginners, to the more competitive it covers all types and draws international super star triathletes to hundreds of families, kids and seniors. Australia's largest Aquathon, it's renowned for the feel good fun factor where everyone is cheered: safe, spectacular location, loads of prizes, giveaways and professional services all make up what's so special about 'Australia Day in the Gong'!

Sheffield ShieldSheffield Shield

Date: 25-28 February 2017

The Sheffield Shield is coming to Wollongong this season, with the NSW Blues to host the Tasmanian Tigers at North Dalton Park from February 25-28.

Some of the best cricketers in the country will be in action for the Blues over the four day match, including former Illawarra cricketer Nic Maddinson plus Test cricketers Ed Cowan, Doug Bollinger. The Blues will be led by Dapto’s Trent Johnston in what will be a vital match in their quest for a spot in the Sheffield Shield Final.
