BENEFITS OF PARTNERING WITH DESTINATION WOLLONGONG
Destination Wollongong benefits by using the pool of funds generated as a result of the Partnership Program to market Wollongong to international and domestic tourists and potential business investors.
The collective investment by approx 200 partners enables us to undertake a range of marketing initiatives which helps drive the $1 billion dollars tourism generates from visitors each and every year. This collective approach also enables us to generate exposure for your business across multiple layers of marketing, media channels and distribution systems.
The recent National Visitor Survey for December 2017 was released with outstanding results for the South Coast. Visitation for the quarter was up by nearly 5% but most importantly visitor spend for domestic overnight visitors to the region was up by almost 14% a tremendous result.
The State Government has set the aspirational target of doubling the overnight visitor economy by 2020, and results such as these, put the South Coast at the forefront of achieving this goal.
The exciting future ahead and how you can be involved
There has never been a more exciting time to be part of the NSW visitor economy.
The State Government has recently released the Visitor Economy Industry Action plan 2030 which champions the role that regional NSW will play in tripling the 2009 regional overnight expenditure by 2030.
Key deliverables of the report include making it easier to do business in NSW, new funding opportunities for events and infrastructure and a commitment to skills based training for industry.
We were also delighted to see in the NSW Cruise Development Plan a commitment to investing in regional ports and committing to improving the experience that cruise ship visitors enjoy whilst visiting ports.
This ongoing commitment to dispersing visitors out of Sydney can only benefit all businesses on the South Coast and we welcome this commitment from the State Government.
Closer to home, we are to confirm that Wollongong has a technology and innovation festival, the likes of which has never been seen before in Australia. The 3 Festival – so named for its exploration of arts, technology and society – is inspired by Ars Electronica, a cultural, educational and scientific institute responsible for one of the largest and longest running technology festivals in the world. Not a bad result for the City of Innovation! Stay tuned for more updates and how you can get involved with showcasing the innovation of Wollongong to the world.
With your ongoing support we can continue to grow tourism in our region and invite you to be part of our 2019/20 Partnership Program.
